Since FareShare Bath started deliveries in October 2011 we have saved around 6 tonnes of in- date, good quality food from being land filled. This has provided around 14, 286 meals to vulnerable people in Bath. If this food had just been manufactured and sent to landfill the associated CO2 equivalent released would have been around 28.2 tonnes, so the project is just win win win.
We're currently delivering food to 7 charities every Monday afternoon. In 2012 we're aiming to deliver to more projects helping vulnerable people. We want to get more fit for purpose waste food from Bath businesses and producers and we want to involve more volunteers from Bath's community. We're also hoping for some exciting collaborations with other groups who want to save good food from being wasted and help the local community like Food Cycle and the People's Kitchen... and perhaps this year Transition Bath can finally get its community cafe.
If you would like to learn more or get involved then email Rebecca at rebecca@faresharesouthwest.org.uk or visit the Fareshare Southwest website.
