Transition Bath held it's regular 'Action Group' meeting last Monday, taking a youth focus, the meeting chaired by 17-year old sustainability activist, Tom Youngman, of Green Vision.

Pete Capener of Bath Community Energy gave an exciting update on the state of the project and the progress towards the group's target of installing 1.5MW of generation capacity in the next couple of years. The interest shown from discussions with surprising corporates was very encouraging news.

We were also joined by two Bath Spa students, one from their new environmental society and one from the allotments project. The allotments project appears to be going strong and is certainly one to watch.

Energy Efficient Widcombe and the Energy Group both appear to be going from strength to strength, with the the former group taking a lead in decreasing the alarming rate of deaths as a result of fuel poverty in the ward. They're currently trying to find volunteers to be trained to inform residents on energy issues.

Tom finished off the session with a workshop to encourage positive, practical action among Transition Bath. The presentation, entitled 'Environmentalism is dead - but sustainability lives on.' talked of the failures of adversarial campaign to engage with the public effectively, and how we need to promote positive principles rather than extended lists of things to fight against.
